If you are a yachtie, each year a group of up to 30 round the world cruisers call at Oyster Island to experience the island and surrounding attractions. They have a couple of parties ashore and if you are interested in yachting then this is a great week to book at Oyster Island and become part of the fun. The group arrive at Oyster Island on about the 12th August. For a quiet island this is one of the busier weeks of the year with many more people than usual.
If you are interested in the culture of Vanuatu independence week, this is a unique opportunity (31st July). Oyster Island is situated right in the heartland of Vanuatu, the locals are extremely proud of their independence and celebrate it for the week with games, stalls, music, sport and celebrations. This week is always a battle for us, we try really hard to be ready for you as a guest but this is Vanuatu and some things catch us out. Last year the local community decided to celebrate independence with an egg throwing competition, needless to say the town ran out of eggs for a couple of days, but if you can handle those sorts of issues then what a great time to be included in one of the Pacific’s great events. At Oyster you will be part of the fun, one of the locals, not just tourists. Give it a try if you want to be part of another culture.
